Blossom-Nursery 2017 - 2018

Miss Carver

Welcome to Westlea Nursery

We are a team of 2 members of staff Miss Carver and  Mrs Gittins

As we are a morning only Nursery therefore every second of learning counts. We aim to start promptly at 8:35 to allow older siblings to come round with parents to drop off Nursery children and still have enough time to get into school themselves. At Westlea, families matter and are at the heart of our school.

Our morning starts with songs and activities to learn the days of the week, recognise and write names and numbers. It is also (more importantly) the time when we select a star/helper of the day.  The star then has the responsibility to support the learning and complete some key roles (like announcing tidy up time by shaking the tambourine and sharing out the fruit at snack time).

Observations and assessments take place during continuous play and adult led activities throughout the morning. These are recorded regularly in the children's learning journeys which parents can view at the end of the day and during parents/families to school days. Work from the adult led activities are kept in a separate book. Both books show progress and evidence of access to all of the 7 prime and specific curriculum areas. of the foundation stage.

We have access to a large indoor and outdoor area - which we use in all weathers (so dont forget those coats). We also use the school hall once or twice a week to advance our physical development skills.

If you have any questions, queries or problems please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff and if it cannot be answered or solved on the spot, I will be happy to see you before or after school.

Thank you, Miss Carver

AUTUMN TERM 1 - SEPTEMBER 2017

Following the advice from a course I attended at the end of last year (Narrative Literacy in EYFS) this first half terms 'core' theme books will be ' Goldilocks and the three bears and 'The three little pigs'. Other books we will be looking at include 'Bears on a chair', 'Bears in the bath', and 'Bears and a Birthday'.  We have decided to keep some of the most enjoyed activities from last years slightly broader 'Me and my Teddy' theme - including a teddy bears picnic (if the weather ever dries up!) and self portrait painting.
