Mental Health and Well Being

"At Westlea we help children to understand their emotions and feelings better; we help children to feel comfortable sharing concerns and worries and we help to develop emotional resilience. We believe strongly that the health and well-being of pupils and staff matter. We acknowledge that everyone experiences life challenges but we take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s business and we all have a role to play here at Westlea."

Everybody has mental health and it affects how you think, feel and act. It can change on a daily basis and over time as a result of a number of different factors. Sometimes we might feel that we have good mental health and sometimes we feel it may be not so good. Therefore, it  is very important to look after your mental health just like you would look after your physical health. This is because how you are feeling will affect  the choices you make, how you respond to those around you and most importantly, how you cope with challenges and stress. When children have good mental health it can help to build resilience, self-esteem and confidence as well as allowing them to feel calm, happy and positively engage with the world around them."
