Willow- Year 1 2024 - 2025

Hello and welcome to Willow Class! 

My name is Mrs McCracken and I am the class teacher in Year One. Our amazing Teaching Assistants are Miss Erskine and Mrs Gittins and together we make up the staff of Willow Class 2024-2025. Mrs Barratt will have the class on a Thursday afternoon and on a Friday.

In Year One, we spend a lot of time working on our phonics to help with our reading and writing. We are always busy and enjoy using all the equipment around the classroom to help us learn. 

At the end of every day, Mrs McCracken or another member of the team, will choose a Class Captain. This person gets to be at the front of the line and do all the important jobs for the day! They also take home the class captain book to write about what they have been up to and the following day share this with the class. 

Reading books will be changed by an adult on Tuesdays. The children will take home a book for the week to read at least 3 times. For everyday they read the children's reading rockets move up and they earn rewards. 

In Year 1, children will get homework on Friday, this will be Phoincs and Maths related linked to the learning in the class. Children will have a quiz on the phoincs words on a Monday. Homework is to be returned no later than Tuesday. 

PE will be on a Tuesday and wednesday. Please ensure your child comes to school in PE kit suitable for outdoors on these days.
